What is the meaning of Hayd and what is its minimum and maximum duration?
The blood that flows normally from the front private part of an adult woman, and is not due to illness or childbirth, is called Hayd (menstruation).
If it is due to sickness, it is called Istihādah (irregular bleeding),
and if it occurs after childbirth, it is called Nifās.
(Fatawa Hindiyyah, Volume 1, Pages 36–37)
The minimum period of Hayd is three days and three nights — meaning a full 72 hours.
If it is even one minute less, it is not considered Hayd.
The maximum duration is ten days and ten nights.
